I’d like to introduce you to Sarah from Sarah Kenyon Coaching. She joined Chromatical Club on the 7th of May 2020.

I reached out to Sarah to see if she’d like to share her results, because I thought it was important to show that the club isn’t just for the typical ‘creative’ (artists, makers, designers etc), but also service based businesses who have that LOVE of creativity, and a flare for things that are a bit different.

Sarah is a business coach, who I didn’t now prior to joining the club, but who now I consider a friend. We chat about our businesses on the reg and if it weren’t for the club, I wouldn’t have that much needed person to chat to. Building your network, removing that isolation of being a small business owner, and making real pals is a huge part of the club that I also wanted to talk about. Running a business is so much more than marketing.

I hope you enjoy reading her club experience.

Why did you join Chromatical Club?

I wanted to be a part of a community because for so long I’d been in my coaching bubble, alongside other coaches which of course makes that imposter syndrome come out to play, but I also didn’t feel aligned, nor was I gaining any inspiration because it all seemed to be the same.

*Enter Chromatical* I finally found my people. While my target audience are creatives, I was previously in the creative industries myself as a makeup artist and that passion never left. I had my reservations because as a coach I didn’t want to be seen as a “poacher” so I messaged Trish directly and voiced my concerns that my intentions were genuine but was worried about how others would perceive me being in there.

Trish came to the rescue and assured me that this was a community for everyone and that I would be more than welcome to be a part of it.

What did you hope to achieve from joining?

I wanted to find my people, a community and a support group that were there to bounce ideas off and gain honest opinions about the things I wanted to create.

What were the biggest challenges you hoped the club could help with?

How to speak and sell to my audience without sounding sleazy, coachy (that’s definitely not a word but we’ll roll with it) and unauthentic.

Through a mix of market research within the club and additional support from Trish on weaving my personality and tone through my content helped ten-fold.

The other main challenge was getting over myself basically, I felt I never fit in with other coaches and still don’t, but the club have made me realise that I don’t have to. That I can be exactly who I am and still attract dream clients.

What has been your prior experience with marketing?

I love marketing and it’s a big part of my coaching, but there is ALWAYS room to grow and when you’re so close to your business you’re tunnel visioned.

Marketing is about constantly tweaking, testing and measuring for growth. But even though I can see the gaps for my clients doesn’t mean that I always see the gaps for myself.

How has Chromatical Club helped you?

The club, like Trish says, is your marketing toolkit. The place to go when you’re looking for advice AND sometimes, you’ll gain insight into something entirely new that you weren’t even looking at a solution for.

Specifically, I knew I wanted to gain more of a perspective into what creatives struggled with, what their pain points were, what they were passionate about and where they went for information. I also wanted to be able to go outside of my industry for inspiration so that I wasn’t being insular in my marketing but was actually catering to my target audience.

Has the club helped you more than you expected?

As I’ve been a part of many memberships, I am familiar with how they are run and knew that I’d gain some support, but Chromatical exceeded my expectations and then some.

I’ve always been the odd one out, but even as a business coach I felt right at home, I couldn’t ask for anything more.

What results have you achieved since joining the club?

Going back to my favourite part of the club the challenges, one in particular (challenge 17 – where are people dropping off?) prompted me to check in on my bounce rates and lo and beyond it wasn’t cutting the mustard.

So, I went back and identified what needed to happen to bring this rate down, it ALSO prompted me to check out a fellow Chromies work (shout out to Nell) who helped me with my SEO and showed me other ways to get this number down.

I’m proud to report that initially I had a bounce rate of 79% and now I’m at a healthy 32% (woohoo!) not only that, but my page views have increased too!

This is just one aspect of the club that prompted me to make a change and it worked. Plus, you can do the challenges at any time, even if you made it a priority to catch up on past challenges, your business will be healthier for it.

There’s also the additional accountability from other members to work through it together. I also want to mention that during this year, I craved support, I needed connection and like many other business owners it can be damn lonely at the best of times, let alone a pandemic.

So I can’t thank Trish and my Chromies enough for banding together and having each-others backs during a time no one could have predicted.

Sarah’s AMAZING reduction in her bounce rate! YAY SARAH!

Sarah’s AMAZING reduction in her bounce rate! YAY SARAH!

Do you think you'd be where you are now without the club?

Absolutely not. When I came into the club, I was still trying to nail down my niche and my own personal brand.

It was through the support from others and listening to other Chromies that I came out of my shell and found the confidence to step into my own unique space.

How would you put a value on what the club has done for you and your business?

The marketing advice is top notch and honestly, I haven’t been able to get the answers to my questions anywhere else but Chromatical.

It’s the support and knowledge I’ve been looking for and it’s my first port of call whenever I find myself struggling to find perspective.

The price of the club is invaluable, I would spend the same amount if not more on one night at a networking event and not even get to speak to all of the attendees! For the price of the club I gain access to continued networking, current and past events, and support whenever I want. I haven’t even looked to network this year because I know that I get all of that and more within the club.

What part of the club has surprised you the most?

One of the main factors of me making the leap into the club was the fact that it wasn’t hosted on Facebook, but an entirely private area for all members to go to.

I was pleasantly surprised at this and it’s what sold me. I’ve been a part of other memberships, yet the community aspect is all on social media and for me, that puts me in an entirely different mindset. I wanted a place away from that, a place I could go where there wasn’t competing messages and metaphorical noise.

Not only that but the amount of value within the club AND because it’s hosted through another platform the functionality is amazing. I can search for anything I want, whether it’s a specific topic, vendor, profession, event, challenges and videos. It’s filled to the brim with value.

Who would you recommend the club to?

Any creative that is looking for that missing piece, for support and someone to bounce off. You're in luck because the club offers that and SO much more.

What do you love about Chromatical Club?

My favourite thing about the club are the fortnightly challenges, they have made me check in and audit my business (I mean hello, I’m fine to audit my clients but me? Forget about it!) these challenges have made me set aside time and make it a priority to check in on the little things, like bounce rates, analytics, page reviews etc.

When in other memberships the challenges have been more around mindset, reflection etc, I’m more focused on action and results and these marketing challenges have been perfect.

Lastly, can you tell us a little more about your businesses and where we can find you online?

Well howdy!

My name is Sarah and I’m a former Makeup Artist turned Creative Business Coach who has way too many leather jackets and boots.

I left my corporate role in August 2019 to pursue coaching full time, I’d been hustling on the side, as both a freelance artist, virtual assistant and taking on beta coaching clients to test and measure.

I enrolled in a business course to make sure the fundamentals were right and then in January I officially opened my doors.

I’m an alternative coach by default, I march to the beat of my own drum and coming from a military background, getting sh*t done is in my veins. However, I’m the kind of coach that if I were a bootcamp instructor, I’d tell you to do 10 push ups, show you how, then get down and do the last five alongside you.
