Selling isn't gross, sleazy, inappropriate or dirty. It's just business

If you hate selling, you're going to want to read this. It'll reframe how you approach posting your products or services on social media!

I've got some questions for you. Answer them honestly, k?

  1. When others in your niche/industry sell.... what is your reaction? Are you like 'Omg you dirty, dirty business owner you are disgusting and I'm unfollowing you?'

  2. The things that you've bought before that are on your desk or in your house or the services you bought that have helped you grow, did you know you buy them because you were sold to and did you think the person selling them to you was gross or tacky?

  3. Could you get into your imagination zone and pretend you had a retail shop and a customer walked in. What would you do? Would you hide all of your products? Would you leave them out but apologise for the fact that they were there? When they came into your shop looking for exactly what you offered, would you avoid showing them what might help them because ewww sales!!

I'll answer them for you.

  1. No

  2. No

  3. Nope

That's because selling isn't gross. It isn't sleazy or inappropriate or dirty. It's just business. It's expected.

Selling CAN be.... it CAN be gross. But are you anything like those slimy people that you're putting yourself in the box with? Are you manipulating people into buying snake oil? No!! You have a business. And you have things to sell.

So back to that retail shop analogy...

When people walk into your retail shop, there's an expectation that there are things to buy in there right?

You as the owner of the shop, who's selling your things isn't uncomfortable selling there because there's an understanding that the people who are coming in to your shop are there to shop! That's the purpose of the shop existing, so it's a totally appropriate time to sell right? Well. Your Instagram is JUST like that retail shop. People have discovered your Instagram account (your shop), and chosen to follow you (walk in and browse). Before they followed you, they knew what you were about. They saw you were a business. They took a look at what you had to offer and still said ‘yep, that’s what I am interested in knowing more about and being a part of’. They have chosen to walk into a place that they know is a business, and they expect that the business will have something to sell.

They haven't followed you on Instagram and been HORRIFIED at the outrageous posts you made when your business shared about the products or services that they already saw you posting about and decided they want to see more of. Nah! They aren't doing that.

They haven't followed you under a false impression that you're going to be posting something different to what you do.

They signed up for your posts.

They want to hear from you.

They want you to sell to them. So just like the shop owner wouldn’t apologise for talking about what they have for sale in their shop, please stop apologising for talking about what you have for sale/or to book on your Instagram. Please sell. You are allowed to sell. You have a business!

Is it dodgy that when I go to the supermarket there is food on the shelf for me to buy? No.

Is it icky that a photographer just shared that they have new session times available so that their clients can book a spot? No.

Is it gross that a maker has a new release with fun products to make people feel happy and special? No???

There is no need to fear selling.

People who don't sell make less money. It is literally critical that you sell. You just have to find the right way for you and your business to do it.

You don’t need to ram your products or services down people’s throats and make them feel icky. If you don’t sell or share what you have to offer to those who have literally said ‘I am interested in what you offer’ by following you, it’s much harder to actually get customers or clients and you're leaving a BUCKET LOAD of money on the table. So please stop prefacing your sales posts/emails with an apology. You wouldn’t do it in a shop to your customers, so don’t do it in your socials/emails to your customers/clients.

PS: Now I'm going to sell... Stick with me here, and realise that it's not gross that I'm doing this because I'm not being slimy or gross, I genuinely want to help and everything I design or create has the objective that it will help you and your business grow. If I don't sell, I can't help. So I literally have to sell or allllllll the businesses in my club, or those who have done my plan in the past and transformed their lives... all those people never would have had that happen to them if I didn't sell....

The Chromatical Marketing Experience (read about it here) teaches you a lot about selling, how people read and interpret your posts, why people buy, when to post what kind of content, and will give you SO much context around selling, psychology and guide you through the process of finding the right ways to sell that don't actually feel like selling.

By the end of it, you'll find that you're comfortably selling every day and not one part of it really feels salesy.

You'll also realise that the reason you feel gross about selling is because you have a skewed idea about what selling really is. You'll know what to post to market your business (because marketing is essentially selling) if you do The Experience and ooof will your load be lighter by the end.

One of the things we work through in The Plan (300 pages with 30 tasks in the modules - which you get a hard copy of) is that those 'sales' posts you sell, aren't actually what get people to sell. It's allllll the other posts before it that lead people to sell. And if you don't know what they are, what they need to be, and what to do for those... the product or service based 'buy now' posts aren't going to have the impact you want.

The Plan part of The Experience walks you through, step by step, all the things you need to do to market your business strategically instead of 'winging it'.

Read ALL about how I can help you not only with sales, but help you form a strategic, personal marketing plan for your business that is more than just a plan, you'll actually learn how to market your business through this.

It includes The Plan (a physical copy in the goodie box) AND, 12 weeks of video trainings (that are very different to anything you may have experienced before! It's why it's called The Experience!!
